What to Avoid

The following is a list of ingredients, mostly per the Truth In Labeling campaign and their List of Ingredients to Avoid, that either directly contain Processed Free Glutamatic Acid (Exitotoxin and harmful/active component in MSG) or create it during processing; either way, you should avoid all of these ingredients at all cost (unless you favor health problems in your life). The "E" numbers are for European ingredient listings. MSG Truth's list has some brand names included as well as some other sources (such as Parmesan Cheese).

Glutamic Acid (E 620)
Magnesium glutamate (E 625)
Malt extract
Malt flavoring
Milk Powder (used in many low/non fat milks) 
Monoammonium glutamate (E 624)
Monopotassium glutamate (E 622)
Monosodium glutamate (E 621)
Natrium glutamate (natrium is Latin/German for sodium)

(if listed as an ingredient, this indicates the pea/soy has been hydrolyzed at least in part and contains Free Glutamic Acid).

Some Binders and Fillers in prescription medications, vaccines and some fluids fed intravenously.
Soy protein
Soy protein concentrate

Soy sauce extract
Taste No. 5 (added 7/7/2010) contains ingredients high in free glutamic acid.
